| Los Angeles Entertainment Guide: Shaune Bagwell | | | | Emmys 2000 Fashion - Red Rules!.. by Shaune Bagwell.. .. From crimson to claret, red was the color of choice at the 52nd Annual Emmy Awards. Everyone from newlywed Jennifer Aniston to the inimitable Stockard Channing to comedian Molly Shannon wrapped themselves in sumptuous ruby. .. .. Other notable stars that selected red were: Calista Flockhart in a high-necked, ruffled sheath; Debra Messing in Vera Wang; and Jean Smart in a look reminiscent of old Hollywood. My personal favorite, however, was the breathtakingly beautiful Rebecca Romjin-Stamos. Rebecca, however, is one of those people who could have shown up in red burlap and still stolen the show. | | | | ... her (Gina Davis') dress was so sheer that we got an anatomy lesson! | | | | | Fashion Losers... The exciting thing about awards shows are the soaring high points and the inevitable low points of the evening. Everyone looks forward to the seeing the fashion disasters that wind up on Mr. Blackwell's list and the memorable classics that are imitated throughout the coming year. Let's start with this years' lows: Sarah Jessica Parker in a pink, feathered Easter egg concoction. Sarah herself was radiant, why would such a beautiful, slender girl wear something that hid her figure so? And then there's the matter of the feathers... never mind. | | Gina Davis at first glance was fabulous. As I looked a little closer, I realized her dress was a bit sheer. So sheer, in fact, that we got an anatomy lesson! I often wonder what actresses were thinking when they attempt the nearly naked look. Didn't they check the mirror? Did their stylist not tell them everything was showing? Perhaps the obvious reason is to revive their careers and everyone will write about them on the Internet...who knows?! | | | | Fashion Winners! In the showstopper-jawdropper category, Heather Locklear and Halle Berry were the hands down winners. Heather selected a white pin-pleated Richard Tyler gown with a train, while Halle Berry looked every inch a princess in a black tulle ball gown. After reviewing the fashions at this year's Emmys, I am more excited than ever to see the fashions at next year's Oscars. I can hardly wait for spring! .. .. Who knows what we may see...I know what we won't be seeing...red. | | | | Visit Shaune's Los Angeles Fashion Scene Page, or go back to Homepage. | | | | | | | | UPDATE: March 2000 Shaune's Picks for the Oscars Winners !! | | | | It's that time of year again...Time to settle in front of the tube and see who walks away with the top prizes of the entertainment industry. Who will bring home Oscar gold this year? My guess is it will be a bed of roses..... .. I know you've been waiting, so .... here are the rest of my predictions: .. .. Best Actor The prize in my opinion, will go to Kevin Spacey for his excellent portrayal of suburban depression in American Beauty. Denzel Washington will be close behind. My warm fuzzy favorite that I secretly wish could win? Richard Farnsworth! .. .. Best Actress I thought Annette Bening's performance was amazing, but my pick for this prize is Hillary Swank. Swank's showing was an absolutely unforgettable once in a lifetime performance... Oh shoot...I wish there could be two winners on this one... .. Best Supporting Actor This race is a bit harder to call, but I think it will come down to Michael Caine and Haley Joel Osmet. The award will most likely go to Osmet, for the manner of brilliance that he carried an entire film, I mean, he's a little kid!!! .. .. Best Supporting Actress Although I liked Chloe Sevigny, it's kind of hard to beat Angelina Jolie. Let's face it, she is the girl of the moment, and while that shouldn't matter....I think it does. .. .. Best Picture American Beauty. Need I say more? .. .. Best Original Screenplay American Beauty once again... Being John Malkovich and The Sixth Sense were cool, but they don't threaten Beauty. .. .. Best Adapted Screenplay Either Cider House Rules or Election in my opinion, and I'm going with Election, just because I'm sick of everyone else! .. .. Well, we will have to wait until Sunday to see how my picks do...but I'd love to hear your picks! You can e-mail them to me at shaunesb@aol.com. See ya! | | | | | The Year 2000 Golden Globe Awards | | Los Angeles actress Shaune Bagwell with the fashion scoop... | .. | The Golden Globes are second only to the Oscars for celebrities dressing to the nines. A colossal event indeed, this year's stars had to make their way down the red carpet in some rather challenging weather conditions. Taking all of this in, what amazed me was how great everyone's hair managed to look to spite the rain. My favorite this year was the inimitable Julia Roberts in her elegant, simple, red V-neck dress. With the complete lack of any jewelry and straight hair, Julia's sense of style was unparalleled... .. Gwyneth Paltrow was one of the few female attendees in pants, and she pulled it off brilliantly. The other pants-wearing celeb, Lara Flynn Boyle, looked like she could have tried a little harder. Eternal knockout Elizabeth Hurley was no exception this year in a gown that showed just enough skin to still be classy, and I can't fail to mention stunning Minnie Driver in a burgundy number that was cut down to South America. Angelina Jolie was beautiful in her silver ensemble, but was it my imagination, or was her hair blue? .. .. Courtney Love donned a frock that looked like something that my cat sharpened his claws on, and it was a complete act of God that everything managed to stay covered. I was relieved to see that Calista Flockhart looked gorgeous and healthy, but Best Actress Hilary Swank appeared to need a few Big Macs! This year's event was no disappointment, and overall everyone looked as though they pulled out all the stops. This leaves us all to wonder what's in store for us at the Oscars... | | | | Shaune Bagwell is an accomplished actress and model. | Shopping
for quality clothes at bargain prices can be challenging, so I will
attempt to point you in the right direction based on my experiences.
One can find some really great suits and dresses for the office at
Bebe.
The styles are conservative but sexy, think Ally McBeal. Prices are
competitive, In the 100 dollar range, and most styles are available
in petite sizes... .. My pick for cute sweaters
and blouses
to pair with jeans and casual pants is Express.
Most tops are in 25-40 dollar range, and the fabrics stand the test
of time. When it comes to party
clothes, an outfit for a night out on the town, I like Rampage. These
dresses are clingy and sexy, while the pants have the cut of more
expensive designer styles. Most selections are in the 100 dollar range,
but look much more costly. Right here on the web, check out Yoox.com.
Talk about dynamite clothes for almost every occasion! Prices won't
break the bank, your order can be shipped overnight for an extra charge,
and they usually have most items in stock. Also a favorite of mine
is jcrew.com.
Casual styles for weekend wear, prices are excellent, and they too
have next day delivery. |
.. | "One of this season's big hits on the runway were (Tom Ford of Gucci's) flare-leg pants." | | .. | "So, Shaune, what's the scoop on the latest fashions from the leading designers?!" | | Tom Ford, designer for Gucci, has done it again! One of this season's big hits on the runway were his flare-leg pants. Flattering on almost every woman, the flare-leg allows the fabric to fall down over the shoe. A woman can wear a mid-heel or a higher platform sandal, and have the illusion of being taller. .. .. Always wonderful Dolce and Gabbana has sheer romantic blouses that are worth the splurge with warm weather on its' way. Velasco Andersson has beautiful movie star satin dresses this season. In bright colors and shiny fabrics, stars and celebs are sure to be wrapped in these yummy confections at the Oscars. Also keep your eyes open for DKNY's one-shouldered beige suede mini dress (yum!), capable of going from the office to out on the town for a romantic dinner, this is my personal favorite. | | | | | Metrofashion Spring 2000 - Contents | | Spring 2000: Elegant and Pretty, Wild Side, Glamorous Chic, Elegant - Bill Blass Tour | | Trends: pretty, sheer, wild, chic, glamorous, elegant | | Designer Spotlight: Maria Campo, Italian Couture and Stagewear (Hollywood) | | Retailer Spotlight: Museum of Jewelry Spring 2000 Catalog | | |
