The Ruby Rose
of Spring 2008
Elsie Katz designer Donna K. Baxter celebrates Spring 2008 with
rose blossoms and brocade.

Elsie Katz Couture Spring
2008 embraces the emphemeral nature of the rose as centerpiece
for a beautiful evening.
Elsie
Katz Spring 2008 Los
Angeles shows chiffon and organza cocktail dresses, evening gowns,
and embellished jacket ensembles in jewel tones such as ruby,
emerald,
and amethyst.
Hand tucked and hand created blossoms abound as appliques, inlays,
and embroderies.
One striking resort design pairs a cropped
jacket and knicker pant of chrysanthemum brocade with a delicate
chemise of chiffon blossoms on tulle. Contrastingly, a simple cocktail
peony chiffon
party dress is embellished with sequin and crystal beaded petals.
The effect is magical on the runway and promises to be even more satisfying
for the spring weekend event planner.
Designer
Donna Baxter drew the rose inspiration for Elsie Katz Spring Summer
2008 Couture from the famous book The Little Prince in which
a lone traveler meets a fantastical prince from outer space who is
in love with a singular rose on his home asteroid. Katz Spring 2008
celebrates this love of ruby
beauty with sexy spring cocktail dresses and long flowing evening
gowns in vibrant feminine shapes and colors, all adorned with laborously
crafted floral blossoms on borders, bodices, and brocades.
Ruby is complemented with emerald green satin
creations, some with feathers, others with petals, and peony and
ivory brocades of cascading organza. The Little Prince's magical rose
is transformed into Spring
2008 fashion ambassador with a wardrobe for all distinquished
foreign planetary special occasions.
