Maria Campo, Couture Designer

Spring 2000 is about Renewal. My view for the Spring 2000 Design Collection is "renewal". The woman of the new millennium is ready to embrace a more fresh look, both delicate and modern.

Denim and floral prints are re-discovered, and colors are definitely "in" for both day and evening wear. The fashion for Spring 2000 allows and offers women the ability to enhance their bodies with style and express their attitudes through what they wear. (see pretty, wild, chic, and elegant.)

With colors the modern woman speaks loudly and demands attention, or whispers and uses color to camouflage or blend in. More attention is paid to accessories, now an important aspect of dressing up for both day and evening wear.

In a sense, fashion rediscovers the old and elaborates on it to become more versatile for the demands of today's diverse lifestyles. Evening wear has seen a bit of everything. This was especially apparent at the recent Hollywood awards where a variety of styles paraded across the stage---everything from elegant to understated to "over the top" and of questionable taste.

Maria Campo is the owner of MARIA CAMPO DESIGN in Miineapolis, creating evening wear, bridal, children's, and stage-wear designs for clients as diverse as the artist formerly known as "Prince" to Nordstrom. Maria is from Turin, Italy, and worked with NUXIAL INTERNATIONAL in Turin. She recently designed a pink squined poodle skirt for Denise Richards for the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous." You can learn more about Maria on her Official Website, http://www.mariacampo.com.

Couture Design Clients In my work, see-through, sequined, or beaded materials and rhinestones are still big for the Spring season (see Spring Trend: Glamorous and Spring Trend: Elegant), even though the approach is at times more playful. This is the attitude especially in the creation of upscale evening and stage-wear, where colors and sparkles go hand in hand.

what? Stage-wear: fashion design for theatre, film, and movies. You can learn more about stage-wear on Maria Campo's stage-wear page.

In my experience with bridal gowns there is a balanced request for both romantic and sober design, but I also work for brides with an attitude that dares to be different. Brides are considering some colors in the form of appliqués, beads, and even fabrics. Hand work such as hand-beading, embroidery, lace application, and delicate quilting is going strong, allowing the brides to have a unique look created exclusively for them.

In fashion, we have seen things come and go. Styles have been re-visited, altered, improved upon, and at times abandoned.

The woman of today has a matured sense of style. She follows fashion, but understands the importance of using it to her advantage, rather then following it blindly. This is the woman I design for. Maria Campo, Copyright 2000.
