Bill Blass Cruise 2000 Designer Spotlight
©1999-2000 metrofashion-San Franciscans got a personal taste of the Bill Blass Cruise 2000 collection when Mr. Blass himself appeared for a trunk show at Saks Fifth Avenue in Union Square. According to Women's Wear Daily(August 1999), Cruise 2000 should be "utilitarian". Maybe so, but this is Bill Blass' final sportswear collection before retirement and it turns out to be very hip.

Blass Cruise 2000 is ablaze with color and flair- bright fusia dresses, strapless peices inspired by the sailing motif, and sporty, rich silver, bronze, and ivory evening peices, any of which shimmy effortlessly from the oyster bar to the deckrail to the dancefloor. You can see over 50 photographs of the Blass 2000 (and final) Collection from the Spring Fashion Shows on the Vogue website.

Trunk Show: Bill Blass seemed magnificantly resolved at his San Francisco trunk show, signing personal books from fans and talking about his latest sportswear designs. There were only a few models, and peices were brought out casually throughout the afternoon for visitors to review.

Three prominent mannequins displayed the heart of the collection, and Mr. Blass later took pictures with members of the Saks staff and shoppers. It was a warm and memorable, although quiet, appearance for Bill Blass, and one that participants will treasure many years from now when the designer is no longer publicly available.
