White Hot Jenni Kayne Highlights Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Los Angeles
Mercedes Benz sponsors Rami Kashou and Marc Bohbot debuts jacket line

Los Angeles fashion designer Jenni Kayne opened with a white pique caplet (photo) and pencil skirt with military buttons in her October 27th Spring 2005 Collection show in the Main Tent at Smashbox Studios, setting the tone for a daywear and careerwear show that raised the bar for Los Angeles fashion. The look says dapper with flair, West Coast feminine power. Next came a white tux suit jacket over pique pants worn by international topmodel Alex Wek and the white heat turned up from there.

Kayne Spring 2005 emphasized white and silver tailored looks with pinstripe bottoms, military accents, softened by layered chiffon blouses and dresses. One standout look paired a military cropped jacket with black satin apron top draped regally over white poplin cropped pant, for a Napoleon invades Bermuda statement. While the collection featured tailored whites on blacks for Hollywood power brunching, the constant presence of billowy chiffon components and lightweight silhouettes softened the wardrobe. Finally, Kayne Spring 2005 gave a nod to sci-fi culture with silver lurex jackets, tote bags and purses. Establishing a distinct fashion personality for West Coast professional women, Jenni Kayne Spring 2005 catapulted Los Angeles Fashion Week into the first tier of international fashion events.

Mercedes Benz presented Rami Kashou Spring 2005 in the Main Tent at Smashbox Studios on October 28th. Rami Kashou Fall 2004 was so well received that Mercedes sponsored the Spring 2005 show, referencing L.A.'s "design sensibility... from hemlines to cars." Kashou is a GenArt product with a number of critically acclaimed seasonal shows, and celebrity fans like Jessica Alba and Amy Smart.

Rami Kashou Spring 2005 featured pink/blue hues with lush grass, burgundy, and black turned up with ruffles throughout. Highlights: button bolero "Gardenia" cotton cropped top over tank with slate blue tulip skirt, polished cotton thigh length pencil dress (photo) in grape with contrasting sash roses, black floral cotton voile halter top "cut-out" with high-waist ruffle skirt, midnight polished cotton "bondage" dress with funnel neck (space-age), and lilac rayon jersey sectional lounge mini and gown. Inspired by post-Art Deco shapes, Rami Kashou Spring 2005 offers fantasy looks with exotic yet wearable structures in 1940's film noir style.

From the founder of Bisou Bisou, Marc Bohbot, comes the runway debut of True Meaning, a contemporary collection with the emphasis on fashionable jackets. Bohbot referred to the collection as "suburban chic" bridging casual and luxury. True Meaning draws on fabrics like tweed, tapestry and brocade for distinct cuts and strong lines. The True Meaning Spring 2005 Collection mixes pinks and purples with ink blue and rich brown. Runway designs of particular note were the white bolero with silver specks, the champagne metallic blazer accented with tangerine chiffon scarflet, and the heavy denim long sleeved cropped moto jacket. The diversity of the debut line is impressive; True Meaning provides a dressy jacket for any casual event.
