Vogue
Spring 2000 (February) is a dynamite issue about "The New Chic" of Spring
2000 fashion. Vogue calls the current trends the New Chic because they reflect
chic trends from the 1970s with updates for modern details.
For example, there is an article that compares 70s trends with Spring 2000
concepts; flares are replaced with hotpants, cardigans take the place of
ponchos, and rhinestones cover for emboridery. Of course, all of the 70s
elements exist in Spring 2000 designs, but Vogue uses a series of articles
to make the point that 2000 styles are more paired down and trimmed.
Vogue gives a catwalk report that all of the hottest works from September's
shows, including polka dots, snakeskins, and sport chic. And, as usual,
Vogue Spring does an exemplary job of presenting the edge of fashion, this
time in London where British designers like Robert Cary-Williams entered
the mainstream during recent years.
Finally, Vogue presents a crisp look at the New Chic through a fashion spread
of designs from Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Anna Molinari, Strenesse, and Prada.
All of the designs are shown in browns, beiges, tans, and off-yellows. Vogue
summarizes Spring 2000's feminine flair this way; "The season's definitive
item is a chiffon shirt." |
