2000 - Wireless Wearables |
| Fashion Show Theme
: Double Images |
| |
 One
of the themes that emerged from the show was "double images";
fashion as we know it is evolving to absorb new components like communicators,
map-based locators, and identification chips. Our first image of
fashion as personal identifier takes on new meaning when our attachments
and accessories can actually identify us to another person or communication
system. Which leads to a second image of fashion as personal communication
identifier.
With a little stretch, one can even imagine a system where your clothes
communicate each day to your avatars
online, so that your Internet personalities within chat rooms and multi-player
games know instantly what to wear to match your physical appearance. The
popularity of "The Sims"
game from Eletronic Arts, with customizable electronic characters, is
one example. |

has necklaces with embedded processors that converse wirelessly..." |
|
| |
In the future, our physical
personality may be shaped and interpreted not only by the clothes and accessories
we wear, but also by the way our fashion (literally) speaks to others. For
example, Charmed has necklaces with embedded communication processors that
can converse wirelessly with other devices, even those worn by other people.
Our individual choices of how we use and integrate these devices will be
a part of our personal style. We may begin to see international fashion
designers addressing these issues in runway shows within the next few years.
