Speaking of Italy, one provocative Italian artist
has created an entire collection of mysterious, disquieting
figures based on wooden mannequins as subject matter. Osvaldo
Menegazzi is the artist, and his works provide a modern twist to a traditional
theme- representing mannequins in the female form ("expression of the eternal
woman") instead of the classic male form.
The images are full of dormant expectation, lending themselves to a tarot
format. But don't be fooled by the arcane packaging; the actual paintings
are vibrant and compelling. You can see a strong sampling of Menegazzi's
paintings at the Galerie Elektra, 668 Bridgeway (right in the waterfront
