2000 - Ladylike Chic |
Michael
Kors' dashing Spring 2000 super-chic
designs have moved to center-stage in the fashion world. Both
the Kors house collection and the Celine
upscale resort collection are setting the tone for the new mood of metrostyle
- mixing warm colors and fabrics with snappy details and crisp silhouettes
to create a fancy modern look.

Vogue
(review) calls
it a "ladylike" trend, rediscovering the prim and proper simple tones of
the mid-20th century. There are brilliant examples from Prada
(with dark maroon tops and charcoal skirts), Valentino
( pink
blouses with crisp lapels matched with white fringed skirts), and of course,
Chanel
(brown two-peice with bold white stripes that absolutely calls for white
leather gloves).
The Spring 2000 sleeper is Guy
Laroche, whose chic spread of pantsuits and oriental/sub-continent
jackets (we predict) will start showing up late Spring and early summer
and should become a mainstay for many spring seasons to come. The Laroche
Spring 2000 collection reaches across demographics; urban professionals
can pair the black,
pink, and white stretch pants with almost anything fun from the season,
while more-tempered personalities will appreciate the exotic, yet refined
jackets. We'll keep our eye on this collection throughout the year.
Trenchcoat
Glamour Need to hide that $300.00 Mark
Montana shreaded-yellow bandeau with frills, the one that looked so
sexy in the fitting room but feels like a g-string top in public? Try a
trenchcoat!
Detective glamour is back with a Spring 2000 lineup of saucy and classy
coats from a broad set of designers.
Elle Magazine (review)
quotes John
Bartlett as saying "the trenchcoat is that glamorous but perfectly practical
item to throw over everything." Or nothing if you're Jennifer Lopez. And
since Spring 2000 has a lot of throwing, flowing, and blustering, the trenchcoat
may save the day.
Louis
Vuitton
presents a snappy bright leather design with matching belt, with sewn vertical
patterns below the belt. Practical enough with a spiffy round-neck collar
and flaps that add the fireman-about-town look.
Marc
Jacobs presents a putty-colored coat that uses big buttons, a collar-lapel
design, and tulip-bottom to dress up any ladylike figure. The belt ties
and lies, but otherwise the look is precise and coodrinated, one of the
smarter Spring 2000 designs. |
