2000 - Elegant Leisure |
Fashion fans have sensed
for awhile that one of the hottest Spring 2000 trends would be elegant
leisure. After
all, top fashion models like Shalom
Harlow, Elsa
Benitez, and Esther
Canadas have ushered in a new era of glamorous beauty (see Harlow's
street campaign for Ann Taylor.) Now the Spring 2000 collection here, and
it is definitely elegant.
Starting with casual, Bottega Veneta presents a shimmering coral cardigan
covered in studs. The look is comfortable and very contemporary. John Bartlett
presents a series of silk
chiffon pants in warm colors that can be matched with decorative
necklaces and worn through summer's end. For a beautiful review of Spring
2000 elegant leisure, see Elle magazine,
"Fashion Guide", March 2000 (review).
Nothing
is more elegant than Randolph
Duke, and the Randolph Duke Spring 2000 collection confirms this truth.
Duke presents embroidered,
form-fitting Latin designs, sensual sheer
gowns, and rich nocturnal sarong skirts for that midnight rendevous.
The embroidered designs are intricate and symmetrical, with central circles
marking the chest, abdomen, and bust accentuating the female form and capturing
the viewer's attention. The sheers are so fine as to create the illusion
of biological origin, transforming the model into a new and mystical creature.
And the wrap-around sarongs are lush and large, with bold prints and contrasting
use of lines and glitter. Randolph Duke Spring 2000 is clearly one of the
most spectacular creations this year.
Donna
Karan presents a silk chiffon wrap-around dress in swirling pink and
tan that hangs squarely from the shoulders with open chest to create a Venus
look. And Dolce
& Gabbana present a series of silk patterend shirts that dress up any
situation. Colors range from yellow-green to lavender, with paisley and
floral prints.
Clements
Robeiro presents a beige silk chiffon knee-length dress with chocolate
sequins. And Yves
Saint Laurent dazzles with snakeskin
coats to round out the elegant wardrobe. Go
