| Metrofashion Fall
2000 - Leather |
You can't really discuss the mod trend without considering the next
  Fall
2000 fashion trend, leather.
Leather everywhere! Leather in jackets,
pants,
bags,
and as trim for bandeaus,
furs,
and tanks.
And not just cowhide
or lambskin;
there's snakeskin
carried over from summer, and even crocodile.
It seems that 2001
will see the emergence of leather as a basic wardrobe component, a trend
that started in the Northwestern U.S. cities and is spreading. (runway

Here we see Bottega Veneta Fall 2000, a two-peice color-coordinated
leather city look that includes checker pants and a halter top in the Fall
2000 royal camel
colors. Dressed up with wooden bracelet charms and the look is silky chic.
The halter has the appearance of single-cut pattern; one of the recurring
themes in Fall 2000 leather
is the luxurious use of large garment cuts. Another is the racy hoop collar
that makes the outfit appear to be hanging from the model's head like a
mannequin.
While alive with color and movement, the peice is crisp and clean in line
with classic fashion rules.
London
and Italian designers present a wealth of leather choices this season, including
Prada,
Victor
Alfaro, and Shelley
Fox. The
Fox collection includes cropped short copper and rust jackets that go splashy
casual or sophisticated dress. There are few buttons, with emphasis on large
sections of polished hide. They wrap and zip and even hang for schoolgirl
look, while the message is always "leather looks and wears well."
The Fall 2000 Helmut
Lang collection includes a powerful series of leather pieces with jackets,
pants, and vests that have a futuristic yet refined. (more Helmut Lang coming
soon!) In addition, look for leather designs in Fall 2000 colors of burgundy,
brown, and black from John
Bartlett, Hermes,
Calvin
Klein, and Cerruti
(with fur borders). |
