Metrofashion Fall 2000 - Sophisticated Patterns
"Modern fashion is evolving from basic formulas to layered individualism..."

Set in silk, satin, chiffon, embroidery, and prints, geometric and symmetric patterns in Fall 2000 pay homage to the fashion frills of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Maybe the most intriquing quality of the Fall 2000 fashion season is the way trends are combined throughout interpretations. For example, we see sequins and sown patterns matched with royal gold and purple colors.

The combination stirs the viewer to see the deeper messages in Fall 2000, such as the low-cut necklines, latin tailoring, and decorated designs. Modern fashion is evolving from basic formulas to layered individualism, recognizing the architectures of the 20th century decades while introducing exciting new details. Still feminine, these trends open the door for cross-gender fashion collections in the future.

Patterns make the woman. This dress from Carmen Marc Valvo is really three dresses in one: a dance peice, an elegant dinner outfit, and a formal reception showstopper. By combining the best of Fall 2000 ideas, Marc Valvo has provided the lady with a snappy and glamorous distinctly female design.

This trend is a direct carry-over from the prettiness of Spring 2000, which was a hit with buyers where many other Spring trends were flat. The modern woman is very aware of her female side, and appreciates designs that express it. Coupled with manly jackets, pull-over coats, or heavy corduory trousers, these looks are complex and glamorous.

Jill Stuart (image left) presents a diverse collection of prints, structured velvets, and metallic colors with satin. Here we see a simple silk rayon dress with silk overlay that uses spirl prints to highlight the lady's open neck and face.

The exciting aspect of the patterns trend is the comeback of classic Pucci looks, exhibited brilliantly in the Missoni Fall 2000 runway collection.

Geometric, slicing, gold, black, and rose swirls appear in many forms of satin dresses, as well as electric, contrasting zig-zags of black, orange, camel, and mallard. The Missoni Fall 2000 line is vintage 70s disco, with a modern touch of crisply-tailored coats, knee-length skirts, and low-cut trousers for balance. Bravo!

Jill Stuart fall 2000 silk sheer dress with spiral pattern prints Chanel also deserves mention for pulling off a delicious combination of the metro mod structures with electric patterns on scarves, wraps, and leggings. Even a tiny black dress with black & white top and bottom borders has small white polka dots that fire up the runway.

Finally, Marni gives us simple mallard and lilac rose turtlenecks with criss-crossing polka dot bands that create a space-age look with a vintage disco motif. Marni's centerpiece series uses bold flower and leaf prints in Fall 2000 colors on white skirts and blouses to give the suburban lady a current style. From slashing bold colors to flat prints and fine little polka dots, Fall 2000 patterns are a splash and, best of all for retailers, customers love them!
