2000 - Refined Royal Beauty |
Playing it prim and proper is the secret to Fall 2000 style - the dominant
trend is refined, ladylike, royal
looks. Women want to look like they know how to dress, and utilize colors,
cuts, and fabrics
that add glamour. Thus, gold and goldenrod, purple and red, and black and
white are in, while silver, grass green, and yellow have faded away. (runway

Our emphasis is on the golden hues in Fall 2000. Shown here is Angel
Sanchez Fall 2000 gowns in orange, goldenrod, and brass. Sporting the
open neck and deep thrusted back designs carried over from Spring, these
dresses bring back the vigorous woman attitude of the 1940s.
Neither shy nor subtle, they are at once refined and beautiful.
The
New York shows were all about royal looks - Marc
Jacobs, Michael
Kors, and Ralph
Lauren all reflect the American economic boom of the last ten years
with graceful ensembles of black and camel matched with purples and burgundys.
Richly textured coats, pantsuits, and dresses
with tunics
led the way. Marc Jacobs presents a dark beige knee-length, sleeveless dress
with vertical side ribs running the full-length, and a tan leather tuniced
jacket with skirt for the sporty look.
Ralph Lauren brings to the runway a series of dark, workwear looks that
are dressy
enough to take to dinner, including chrome wool knee-length coats, mohair
full-length overcoats with pockets for warm hands, and low-cut (mod)
flat front crepe wool pants matched with cross-wrap satin blouses with open
neck.
BCBG
Max Azria (image right) presents a dynamic leather princess dress with
square collar and luxurious bottom slits. The design is alive with movement
and flapping and the leather is expansive and dramatic.
Gianfranco
Ferre blends the 20s hairstyle with royal robe coats in camel, tan,
and black, and adds complex designs like a horizonatllly-ribbed knitted
cardigan. Salvatore
Ferragamo brings the trend to the boutique with fine leather components
and blue swath wool dresses with the trademark open-cut bottoms.
This trend sums up the Fall 2000 philosophy: refined, ladylike glamour
with new wave, mod cuts and structures. |
