Metrofashion Spring 2001 - Crystaline Fireworks
Appropriately, all of this fashion drama is accented with shimmering rhinestones, sequins, and crystals, and accompanied by gold-crusted and diamond-studded handbags, buckles, and bracelets. Fireworks explode in Spring 2001, and one had only to attend the Red Carpet at the Oscars to enjoy it. This Spring the buzz in Hollywood was Oscar statuettes and Oscar gems. Let's take a look.

At the Oscars, Ashley Judd shed her country girl persona and donned diamond chains and double diamond headbands; it was a jewel-sparked coming out that could only happen in a season where fireworks are the rage.

Judd wore Armani, and a quick look at the Armani Spring 2001 Collections reveals sequins on purple gowns and crystals on sheer blouses. Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Celine all present variations of Spring 2001 evening wear sparkling with stones and metallics. more...

Valentino lights up the bodice with sequins layered on simple shells and sheer silk party dresses. Mint green rhinestones can be found on black halters and white tuxedo shirts. And belt buckles in silver flake (butterfly design), gold chain, and military bronze shape the reliable Valentino long silhouettes.

As the social animal moves, she creates constellations in brief moments.

Fendi's Spring 2001 runway show along a mirrored wall (see photograph above) was a perfect backdrop for the punkish interpretation of Spring 2001 Fireworks.

Karl Lagerfeld used neck cuffs (from bondage themes?!) with gold clasps, bodybuilder-inspired gold belt buckles, and gold-chained stilettos to acknowledge contemporary hip-hop glam while dressing up genuine red, black, lilac, and olive silks, suedes, and nylons.

Fantasy, Dance, Conquest, and Fireworks. The Spring 2001 wardrobe puts its subject on stage, eminently attractive without posing. No need to pause for effect, the motion of clever cuts and framed mid-riff create a flow of action, intrigue, and daring.

The powerful woman of the 90s has transformed into a flight of fancy, with precise movements that promise suspense. Quiet? No. Alluring? Yes. She is the new Venus, in control of her destiny and infatuated with ability to direct it.
