"fitting"!
That
at the end of 20th Century we should look to a classical actress as the
premier fashion icon.
Vogue Magazine Fall Fashion 1999 is a huge issue, with over 500 pages
of amazing fashion images. Including some dazzling shots of Gwyneth doing
1940s, 1980s, and even Elizabethan looks.
And how fitting that the story is about a shopping spree with Gwyneth, racing
through Manhattan on a solo haute couture mission from hell.
Gwyneth sets the tone for an entire issue that is packed with celebrities
and represents a return to the glamour for Hollywood and Madison Avenue.
Truly a fabulous (in the classic sense) magazine production.

insert for Ralph Lauren Collection featuring (pure) red wool gloves
against a white wool turtleneck jacket, a red purse with silver handle,
red-zip boots, and a red head-to-toe blouse/pants/cape combination (p.58),
(2)
cardstock for Saks Fifth Avenue featuring photographs by Gilles Bensimon
of adventurous cloak-and-daggar outfits foreshadowing the upcoming Bond
movie (p. 130),
(3) Generation Y fashion from Studio Viaspago with a gaggle of 6
teens in varsity-to-private liberal college wears (p. 212),
(4) a cool article on the new "shy" star fashion designers (p. 347),
(5) a lively, two-color XOXO cardstock spread of skirts, handbags,
boots, etc. with a smashing unknown model (who we will hunt down!), and
(6) some intense "Party Girls" peices starring ball gowns that would easily
pass for cocktail dresses 20 years ago (not to mention Stella Tennant looking

Gwyneth
Paltrow brings stylish glamour back to Hollywood.
The quietest personalities are sometimes the most intriquing. In the case
of Gwyneth
Paltrow, one might say that "pictures are worth 10,000 words".
Gwyneth is interviewed in W Magazine by Merle Ginsberg, with photographs
by Michael
Thompson. The results are tantalizing. First about the pictures. Thompson
shows Paltrow in casual poses wearing designer pieces, long dresses and
shirt and pants.
Most of the outfits are one-color or just a few colors. For example, Thompson
photographs Gwyneth in a chiffon
two-color body-length dress that looks more like an international flag
than haute couture.
But the effect is dazzling. Gwyneth grins and grimaces, sticks out her tongue.
You can almost see her making faces at the Hollywood establishment.(Cover
