2009 Golden
Globes Red Carpet Dresses
©Metrofashion.com,
January 11, 2009- Muted colors mixed with dark shades and creams
made the 66th Annual Golden Globes red carpet a return to classic
Hollywood beauty. While Lorraine Schwartz jeweled necklaces
were popular, the leading accessories seemed to be buff arms
and updos. Strapless gowns in sweetheart styles and flowing
trains were abundant.

Association. ©HFPA.
The
standout was Olivia Wilde's lavendar ruffled and belted sweetheart
evening dress by Reem Acra, combining the trendy fitted bodice
with a feminine breezy gown. Olivia is a Metrofashion.com favorite
and her fashion star has risen constantly since joining the
cast of the television medical drama House.
Another highlight was Kate Winslet's presence throughout the
red carpet and awards ceremony, looking ladylike and business
savvy in a midnight sheath with decorative English waist pin,
as she won Best Actress for her portrayal of a suburban housewife
in Revolutionary Road. |

from Kiera Knightly's red carpet wardrobe by donning a simple
white strapless sheath dress with waist metallic embellishment
by Monique Lhuillier; with Hayden's natural Grecian beauty the
look was wholesome and dapper.

GLOBES 2005 FASHION |
Celebrity
fashion at the Golden Globes is always a feast for the eyes,
and the 2005 Golden Globes fashion was no exception. Favorite
frock colors included silvers, whites, warm beige tones, and
bright sunset colors like lemon yellow, violet, orange and fuschia
pink. Black, always a safe bet, looked especially notable on
Golden Globe winner Glenn Close. She looked ravishing in a scalloped
black lace illusion dress by the late fashion designer Geoffrey
Beene, paying homage to his legacy.
Joelyn Richardson conjured up visions of Princess Diane and
Grace Kelly in a vintage tribute by Kathryn Walker. She wore
an elegant, white strapless chiffon column evening dress with
matching shawl. Golden Globe winner Mariska Hargitay was captivating
in one of the many bright sherbert colors of the evening, an
asymmetric one shoulder gown in violet satin charmeuse by Vera
Wang.
Teri Hatcher accepted her Golden Globe in a flowing grey and
silver Donna Karan evening glown, spectacular for Spring 2005
special occasion. Complete with handcut, embroidered hemline,
captivating low v-back, and twisted v-neckline, the evening
dress was resplendent in contrasting panels of satin charmeuse
and chiffon. Portia de Rossi won best original gown by Valentino
- a cap sleeve ivory concoction finished off with waist embellishments
of Chanel-like gold and pearl strands. Channel showed their
Top5 best fashions.
Suits of choice for the men were Dior, Gucci, Prada, with Ewan
McGregor a standout in a slim and sleek black Dior. |

GOLDEN
GLOBES 2004 FASHION
The
2004 Golden Globes fashion was a meadow of pale-hued flowers
with frothy dresses in pale rose, apricot, and peach blossoms.
Black, wine, and dark blue evening gowns and cocktail dresses
stood out this year amid all the light creams and taupes, bringing
a delightful mix of color palettes to the awards show. Notable
fashion winners this year happily included two awards winners.
Charlize
Theron glowed in a creamy banana chiffon spring dress with
romantic ruffles along the hips and shoulders. Cut with a
v-back, thin spaghetti straps accented her tall, curvy frame.
Her curls were swept up on one side with a sparkling barrette,
a new trend this year seen on other red carpet fashionistas.
Winner
of best screenplay and best motion picture musical or comedy,
Sofia Coppola captured the essence of the independent modern
woman in her vintage Azzedine Alaia black cocktail dress and
understated flats. Another fashion standout was the ever-glamorous
Uma Thurman, looking sleek in a periwinkle lavender evening
gown. Fitted at the waist, the mid-weight charmeuse satin
cascaded in flounced ruffles down the front, with peek-a-boo
lilac tulle underlay showcasing her jeweled strappy heels.
Nicole Kidman charmed the fans in a hot flapper dress designed
by Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent. Gold and cream sequins
shined on the halter dress with a deep plunging neckline and
sheer chiffon front. Godet inserts around the knees kept the
ensemble from being too heavy, and Kidman topped off the '20s
look with a whimsical gold headband and blond ringlets. The
men opted for more dinner jackets and ties and less tuxedos
this year. Clint Eastwood was dashing in a white bow tie and
dinner jacket, and Elijah Wood gets high fashion marks for
his vintage dark green velvet blazer and shimmering gold silk
tie.

Globes 2003... Back in character, the 2003 Golden Globe Awards
from Hollywood were offbeat and highly entertaining, especially the celebrity
fashion. The "Deep V" was the theme of the evening with actresses wrapped
tight and revealing buff shoulders and arms. Looking more like a body shaping
event than a starlet lovefest, this year's Golden Globes stage presenters and
winners like Nicole Kidman, Salma Hayek, Laura Lenney, and, of course, Jennifer
Garner, showed off the "kick-butt" attitude that Hollywood in 2002 films

Golden
Globes 2002... It was a somber fashion crowd
at the Golden Globes,
even with the normal party atmosphere that prevails. Most of
the guys wore black suits in one form or another, and the women
were generally dressy, if not entirely formal. The fashion winners
were Halle Barry, in a brown lace and sheer gown, Jennifer Garner
(from the hit new television spy drama, Alias), in a
long red sheath dress with three-foot train from Vera Wang,
Kim Catrall in an apricot jersey dress with open shoulders,
and the whole Moulin Rouge ensemble, including Nicole Kidman,
in a bustier dress from Yves Saint Laurent, Ewan MacGregor,
in an all black ensemble, and the film itself, since so many
of the Globe attendees appear to have taken their fashion inspiration
from the movie. It was an evening of gypsy looks, sparkling
jewels, and complimentary male companions. |

Illusion
Becoming the Fashion Reality with Demand
for Value
Sheer
styles have always been exotic. But
in recent years fashion designers have
found creative ways to infuse their
lines with a touch of fantasy
that adds minor cost to the design,
namely illusion fabrics.
Photo: ©Metrofashion.com
Colleen Quen Couture 2006 San Francisco
Netting, gauze, and silk
are being used to add drama to styles
ranging for cocktail dresses to pencil
skirt separates. Overlays are more common
in destination bridal
gowns now as the big event has become
sexier and more entertaining. Even activewear
is getting into the game by adding sheer
panels to yoga, dance, and tennis outfits
With so many options, the key is to
find the illusion
that accentuates your unique shape and
skin characteristics. Sheer fabrics
around the bodice bring the eyes to
the neckline and work well for tall
silhouettes, while an asymmetric
latin-style lace overlay flatters the
curvy figure. Whichever appeals to you
more, illusion design has become the
reality in 21st century fashion as a
means to excite the buyer and satisfy
the merchant.
