2005 Looks Layer Floral, Ethnic Patterns on Bold Whites, Darks
Nothing says sophistication like ruffles, layers, and contrasts, and Spring 2005
Fashion is alive with bold such looks. Catwalks from Paris, New York, and other
metros were brimming. From Los Angeles (see story below), Rami Kashou, Jenni Kayne,
Lady Enyce, Kate O'Connor, Frankie B, Samora, and others highlight a fashion season
oozing tough girliness with florals, ruffles, empire waists, and pencil thin silhouettes.
From London, Preen
shows safari draperies of heavy ruffles in khaki and black rose combinations.
From Milan, BluGirl shows golden sparkles of soft metallic layers and miniskirt
silhouettes, and Dirk Bikkembergs nods to green grass with sharp suits and transparent
(think lingerie) dresses. Just Cavali threads ruffles in and out of flowing vertical
Spanish styles, and Trend Les Copains masters floral prints with high waists and
ruffled collars, seen everywhere on the runways.

From Paris, Nina Ricci (aka Lars Nilsson) lifts the bosom with sharply defined
corsets laid on a palette of lilacs, pinks (the "now" color), overlay
sheer whites, and cropped jackets (the "now" evening piece). Balenciaga
uses croc scales appliqued to sheer body dresses for tribal overtones, mixed with
pencil thin naval suits for contrast. Stella McCartney emphasizes volumonous skirts
and cropped tops in summer white and olive.
From New York, Carolina Herrera matches the short jacket theme with mosaic prints
and jeweled borders and belts set against creams, off whites, and metallic silvery
blues. Narciso Rodriquez embraces the empire waist shape with low cut pants and
shorts to tighten the torso as the female center of gravity. Rodriguez Spring
2005 Collection is sophisticated and eminently wearable. Finally, Ralph Lauren
New York Spring 2005 shows a sea of summer and bridal whites in satin and chiffon,
in long silhouettes for casual warm weather elegance. Fashion season 2005 Spring
