Spring 2001 - Geometric Fantasy |
| |
|
For
Spring 2001, drama has returned to fashion, with bold prints, lush colors,
and cross-cultural motion. Inspired by the epic cinema of Gladiator,
Spring 2001 celebrates fashion's global explosion. While the major fashion
shows in New York, Paris, London, and Milan lead the way, exciting new shows
in Australia, Hong Kong, Brazil, and Vancouver are popping up.
The result is a Spring 2001 season full of vigor and variety; Metrofashion
Themes for Spring and Summer 2001 are Fantasy, Dance, Conquest, and Fireworks,
representing the growing momentum of globalism and the optimism of the New
Millennium.
First up is Fantasy. Dreams and visions of playfulness and grandeur abound
in Spring 2001 collections such as Blumarine, Burani, Dolce & Gabbana,
Missoni, and Versace. European designers went floral and geometric and big
this year with silk prints, sheer wraps, and daring halters. It seems the
Pretty Woman of Spring 2000 has grown up!
Cacharel presents a series of slashed necklines and capri pants in Eastern
prints on white, to be mixed with horizontal stripes and short shorts. The
look is 50s Paris brought up to date with dark denim accents and razor thin
clutch bags. more ...

Moschino
Cheap & Chic presents pink and light olive floral prints on satin blouses,
and yellow, white, and tan daisy appliqués on knee-length school
girl skirts. Versace breaks from the shredded looks of 1999-2000 and presents
a dramatic white turtleneck sheath dress with bold rose and tulips prints
in stretch fabrics for the Spring 2001 version of Catwoman tamed.
Blumarine's ultra feminine pink, sky blue, and ivory princess dresses with
multicolored floral prints and appliqués are the baby doll choice
of the Spring 2001 season. Continuing the Fall 2000 focus on the waistline,
these dresses present a spectacular bodice sitting atop fluttering pleated
skirts separated by thick gold and platinum leather belts. Regal, sensual,
and in control, Blumarine ignites the desires for adventure and romance.
Offering
a different interpretation of fantasy, Burani's Spring 2001 Collection is
monotone and sophisticated; the color is dusty rose and the look is layered
silk with gold and oak imprints. A beautiful gypsy Spring set, Burani Spring
2001 is seductive and playful and foreshadows the intricate styles promised
for Fall.
Fantasy heat is turned up a notch in Missoni Spring 2001 - bright red, black,
and cream stripes and prisms splash across silk and polyester/spandex jersey
dresses with self-fabric belts. Reminiscent of the disco 70s and accented
with buckles, baubles, and gold-chained totes from the 80s, Missoni Spring
2001 creates an aura of postmodern anticipation for the fantasies to follow
in 2001 and beyond. |
